Ramayana Box Office: Dhurandhar 2’s Opening Record Is Safe

Ramayana is set for a big start at the box office, but not a record-breaking one. With opening day estimates now coming in, Dhurandhar 2’s record for the biggest Bollywood opening ever is safe.

The Record Ramayana Can’t Touch

Dhurandhar 2 opened with ₹190 Cr gross worldwide on its first day, the biggest start ever for a Bollywood film.

For a film of Ramayana’s scale, many expected it to break this record, and by a big margin. But the numbers now make it clear that isn’t going to happen.

Ramayana Advance Bookings So Far

  • India: ₹36 Cr
  • Overseas: ₹27 Cr (approx.)

Opening Day Estimates

Based on current trends, Ramayana is expected to gross around ₹80 Cr in India on its opening day. From overseas, the film is expected to add ₹55 Cr or more.

That puts the worldwide opening day estimate between ₹130 Cr and ₹140 Cr. Even with very strong word of mouth, the film could go up to around ₹150 Cr at the most.

Ramayana Opening Day Estimates (Worldwide Gross)

  • India: ₹80 Cr (approx.)
  • Overseas: ₹55 Cr+
  • Worldwide: ₹130 Cr to ₹140 Cr
  • Best Case: ₹150 Cr

Not Even Close to Dhurandhar 2

At these numbers, Ramayana looks set to fall at least ₹40 Cr short of Dhurandhar 2’s record, even in its best-case scenario. There is practically no chance of it reaching ₹190 Cr on Day 1.

The Premiere Factor

One big reason for the gap is premieres. Dhurandhar 2 had premiere shows in India, which helped it post a massive opening. Ramayana isn’t screening premieres in India, which takes away a big chunk of what could have been added to its first-day total.

Not the Start Expected

Still, premieres alone don’t explain it. By any measure, whether budget, scale or hype, this isn’t the start many expected from Ramayana. The film is one of the most expensive ever made in India, and a film of that size usually needs a record-breaking opening to set up its run.

The Big Target: ₹2,000 Cr

That’s why the full run matters more than ever. According to trade estimates, Ramayana will need to go well past ₹2,000 Cr gross worldwide to be a safe venture. In other words, it may need to break every Indian cinema record and become the biggest grosser in Indian film history.

Word of Mouth Will Decide

The good news for the makers is that the film’s first review from India came in with a perfect 5-star rating. If audiences respond the same way, strong word of mouth could carry Ramayana through the Diwali holidays and beyond.

The opening may not be record-breaking, but the long run is where Ramayana’s real test begins.
